EDP participates in this project, which is one of those selected within the Asturian Scientific Missions program 2021.

EDP participates in this project, which is one of those selected within the Misiones Científicas de Asturias 2021 program.

It is a project with a duration of 11.5 months, developed within the framework of a consortium formed by 15 entities led by HUNOSA, and has the following objectives:

  • Generate a regional structure that allows Asturias to be enhanced and positioned based on its research network as a reference in the field of renewable hydrogen, for which a positioning diagnosis of the region will be made, in the field of renewable hydrogen technology, based on both technological and non-technological aspects.
  • Enable and strengthen the capacity of the Asturian industry to access a new and potential market niche such as the production, storage, and use of renewable hydrogen. To this end, a technological roadmap will be established to define a regional strategy to follow in relation to hydrogen technologies, aligned in turn with national and European agendas, based on the region's capacities (economic, social, technological, and industrial). A portfolio of R&D&I projects will also be developed to allow the region to advance in hydrogen technology at different stages of the value chain.
  • Facilitate the introduction of hydrogen as a clean and renewable energy source in the new regional energy model.
  • Study of materials and engineering in the field of hydrogen and its relationship with the value chain, through the development of an empirical test, at the laboratory level, on the analysis of steel behavior in the presence of hydrogen and its application in service. This test will serve as a first line of innovation and basis for future developments.
