Wearables: Augmented Reality

Wearables is a pilot project that brings EDP to the world of Augmented Reality.

Integrated with a digitization process of EDP Produção (the company that manages the Group's production assets in Portugal), this innovative project explores the use of Augmented Reality glasses in the management and maintenance of Power Plants.

Launched in the last semester of 2017, the project has given glasses to the Power Plants' technicians that allow for the management and maintenance tasks to be carried out while simultaneously having documentary support and support from colleagues or external partners who remotely follow the ongoing intervention.

Technicians also have access to the internet throughout the process, and can record photos and videos for later use, to put in reports or to share knowledge. This technology also allows the development of 3D models, to optimize the analysis of the assets' operation or to use in training sessions.

In 2018, the project has advanced to a pilot consolidation phase and it is already implemented in 4 Hydro and Thermal Power Plants. EDP believes that the use of this technology can make a difference in how we manage the maintenance at Power Plants and expects to be able to extend its use to more facilities.
