Labora Forum 2014

Wednesday 18, June 2014

On October 16, at the Cascais Miragem Hotel, EDP Labelec and INESC TEC will hold the LABORA 2014 forum, an event designed to present the most important technical, regulatory and market-related challenges and opportunities faced by the energy sector.

The growing integration of electricity production with renewable sources (characterized by temporal variability) necessarily leads to some changes and the need to achieve high levels of efficiency in the operation of the system.
These challenges require solutions that include new materials and fresh operation and asset management strategies, which are the main issues to be discussed during the International Forum, sponsored by EDP Labelec when the company celebrates 20 years of existence and the group celebrates 60 years of Laboratories experience.

LABORA 2014
The idea of creating LABORA 2014, an event held in partnership with INESC TEC and with the support of the Portuguese Society of Chartered Engineers, was born of the need felt by EDP Labelec to provide a forum where the community - consisting of electrical engineers discharging technical duties in organizations that are simultaneously their customers - would be able to address and discuss, from a number of lectures delivered by renowned scholars, some of the major technical challenges faced by electricity companies today.
Chaired by the Minister of Environment, Territorial Planning and Energy (Jorge Moreira da Silva) the session will also include contributions by the President of Labelec, António Martins da Costa and the Chairman of the Board of EDP, António Mexia.
The LABORA Forum 2014 will feature the presence of renowned national and international experts; confirmed presences include Miriam Alvarez (a partner of the Mckinsey & Co Madrid branch), Prof. João Peças Lopes (INESC Porto), Wolfgang Bernhart (Roland Berger partner), as well as representatives from several Portuguese and international Labs.
The presence of the European Commission's Director General for Energy, Mr. Dominique Ristori, has also been confirmed. Mr. Ristori will present the key issues included in the Commission's agenda, as well as the opportunities and challenges they entail for electricity companies.
