The Twist project had the participation of 1800 students during the first trimester of the 2015 edition

170 secondary schools across the country are participating in the 4th edition of the Twist project, which mobilizes a total of 1800 students in the realization of projects in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change and sustainable development.

The challenge, launched by EDP Serviço Universal in the scope of PPEC, last October, aims to encourage young people to exercise their strong mobilization capacity, as central agents of change within the school community and their household.

In the 1st period of the 2015 edition, the three winning teams were:
1. Secondary School Emídio Garcia Bragança with the project Bazingas
2. Basic and Secondary School of Ourém with the project Ecovolts
3. Secondary School Quinta da Palmeiras Covilhã with the project Palmeirinhas

As in previous editions, Energy Efficiency, Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development are the main themes highlighted in this contest aimed at secondary school students; with the guidance of teachers, they will develop original and educational activities, expanding their knowledge to other dimensions of learning and social awareness.

One of the means of dissemination of the work performed is social networks - the youth election platform, where new ambassadors of energy efficiency will make known their own work, earning followers and adding points for the final qualification.

Each academic period, the three best teams in the competition are selected and receive FNAC vouchers for €50. At the end of the year, the jury will also elect the three winners of the year - the schools are awarded a FNAC or Fabrigimno voucher for € 2,400 and the students and teachers of the winning teams - Fnac vouchers for €125.

This project is an initiative of EDP Serviço Universal under the PPEC - Plan for Promoting Efficiency in Energy Consumption 2013/2015, sponsored by the Regulatory Authority for Energy Services (ERSE).

Winning Teams from the 1st period of 2015 edition

1. Bazingas: set of presented initiatives aimed at changing patterns of the utilization of resources that you already have at home to be implemented in houses, including the installation of solar panel powered lights to light up the garden; turn the thermostat down one degree centigrade (air conditioning).

2. Ecovolts: set of initiatives aimed at changing patterns of use of available resources that will be implemented in schools, e.g. to keep the blinds up, whenever possible, in classrooms where the students are; convincing the school, if they are not doing it already, to replace all, or at least a large part, of the incandescent light bulbs with energy saving lamps.

3. Palmeirinhas: set of initiatives aimed at changing the use of resource patterns to be implemented in homes and schools, e.g. promote the reduction of water consumption at home, drawing up a list of rules to be put in practice; promote the reduction of household waste, with real practices that lead to this reduction, such as resorting to recycling for domestic reduction of solid waste.
