The Company is in the “Leadership” category for the 3rd consecutive year

EDP remains as one of the most distinct companies in the fight against climate change. The analysis, promoted by the non-governmental organization CDP, classifies EDP in the “Leadership” category with an “A -“ score.

Of the more than one thousand companies evaluated worldwide, about a third are utilities, but only 10% of these were included in the “Leadership” category.

EDP's performance reflects its commitment to expanding the production of renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency.

“The decarbonization of the economy is an opportunity for companies like EDP, whose growth strategy has long favored renewable energies and low-carbon services. This is an indispensable contribution to mitigate the effects of global warming, which are increasingly visible in our daily lives”, underlines Rui Teixeira, Member of the Board of Directors at EDP.

CDP classifies the companies according to four performance levels: from basic (Provides information) to the highest - (Leadership), characterized by the excellence of its environmental practices. This assessment made annually by CDP provides information for financial investors and the number of companies covered already represents more than half of the world market capitalization.

EDP's decarbonization strategy, integrated in its Business Plan, foresees the following: to obtain more than 75% of its installed capacity from renewable sources; to promote savings of more than 1 TWh to its customers; to invest €200 million in innovation projects; to modernize its distribution networks, including the installation of smart meters in 90% of consumers in the Iberian Peninsula by 2030 and to reduce specific CO2 emissions by 75% also by 2030, when compared to 2005 levels.

This distinction reinforces the recognition of the EDP Group in the area of sustainability. For the 10th consecutive year, the company remains, prominently, in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which distinguishes the leading companies in sustainability worldwide. The group obtained, in 2017, the best score ever since it joined the DJSI World and Europe indexes, having reached the second position in the ranking of the utilities sector.
