EDP Renováveis to supply Salesforce with 80 MW of wind power

Thursday 30, August 2018

In the long run, the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will bring Bright Stalk Wind Farm to McLean County, Illinois, in 2019.

EDP Renováveis SA (EDPR), through its wholly-owned subsidiary EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA), has announced the signing of a 15-year 80 MW PPA with Salesforce to sell the energy produced by Bright Stalk Wind Farm in McLean County, Illinois. This PPA is part of the 405 MW announcement issued by EDPR on July 3rd.

Boasting 205 MW, Bright Stalk Wind Farm will produce enough clean electricity to supply more than 71,000 homes in Illinois every year. The wind farm will also create hundreds of jobs during the construction works, which are expected to kick off next year, as well as several permanent jobs during the project's lifespan. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2019. Bright Stalk Wind Farm will soon become EDP Renováveis' third operational wind farm in McLean County.

"We at Salesforce are committed to doing our part to step up to the challenge of climate change – the biggest, most important and most complex challenge mankind has ever faced," said Salesforce Vice President for Sustainability Patrick Flynn. "This agreement is a huge step toward our goal of powering our operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2022, and we are excited to work with EDP Renewables on this urgent initiative," he added.

"EDP Renewables is proud to partner with Salesforce to help the company meet the commendable commitment of powering its operations exclusively with renewable energy sources," said EDP Renováveis CEO João Manso Neto. "This agreement is a major milestone for EDP Renováveis and paves the way for our company to expand our presence as a wind industry leader in the state of Illinois," he argued.
