Using batteries, the energy storage facility is located next to Cobadin Wind Farm, in the region of Constanta, Romania.

EDP Renováveis, a leading company in the renewable energies industry and one of the most important wind power producers in the world, has opened a pioneering facility for the storage of wind power in batteries at Cobadin Wind Farm, Romania.

This project (Stocare Project) is an important technological breakthrough for energy storage. The system will make it possible to charge these batteries when there is excessive production and use the stored energy when production is below expected.

This kind of energy storage plant could be a turning point for the energy market, as it will convert renewable energies (such as wind and solar photovoltaic energy) into constant - and therefore more efficient and predictable - energy sources.

EDPR is thus launching the very first energy storage project in Romania, a market where it has been operating since 2008.

The company has an installed capacity of 521 MW in the country, mostly wind power, but also produces solar energy. EDPR's energy production in the country comprises facilities in Dobrogea and Moldova (wind) and Oltenia (solar).

EDPR is constantly seeking technically innovative methods to boost production and improve the use of natural resources, which is why it invests in pioneering projects around the world to remain at the forefront of the clean energy industry.
