EDP to install 50 charging points for electric vehicles at Vila Galé hotels

Monday 24, June 2019

First equipment inaugurated this week in the group's new hotel at Elvas. Charging points may be used by all owners of electric vehicles.

EDP and Vila Galé group closed a partnership which will allow the installation of up to 50 charging points for electric vehicles in the hotel units of the group in the national territory. This way, the customers of these establishments will be able to move in their electric vehicles in moments of leisure, having at their disposal a charging point which will be connected to the public charging network MOBI.E. This infrastructure can also be used by all owners of electric vehicles with access to the hotel parking spaces.

The first two charging points were installed this weekend at the group's latest hotel, Vila Galé Collection Elvas.

This partnership with a reference hotel group with a strong presence in Portugal, where it has 25 hotels, is part of EDP's strategy to promote electric mobility and will allow us to increase to 100, in the coming months, the number of charging points of the company in the public network MOBI.E. Since EDP started betting in this area, more than 59 thousand charges have been carried out in EDP's public charging infrastructure, which has allowed it to load more than 720MWh and avoid the emission of more than 540 tons of CO2.

The installation of public access stations in private spaces contributes to the adoption of electric vehicles in Portugal. EDP Comercial continues to develop initiatives on several fronts, so that more and more customers can choose for a more sustainable option, such as the company's home charging solutions and the green tariff.

We are pleased to continue to find partners who, like EDP, believe that important steps must be taken towards a more sustainable society. With this partnership with the Vila Galé group, more people can choose to move in electric vehicles and load them in an easy and intuitive way, highlights Vera Pinto Pereira, president of EDP Comercial.

“Electric mobility is a trend and the number of customers with electric cars is increasing, so it makes sense to equip our hotels with these stations, so that it is more convenient and faster to charge the vehicles. In addition, this partnership with EDP is fully in line with our sustainability policy, focused on energy efficiency, reducing consumption and waste, and protecting the environment. That is why we have been betting on launching differentiated hotels with paper free and plastic free concepts," explains the manager of Vila Galé, Gonçalo Rebelo de Almeida.

In 2017, the Vila Galé group pioneered the launch of paper free hotels in Portugal, with the opening of the Vila Galé Porto Ribeira, in Porto. Here, the use of paper has been replaced by the use of mobile devices, the internet and its own applications and it is intended to eliminate printing of about 100.000 pages of paper per year. Currently, this concept is also at Vila Galé Collection Braga and Vila Galé Sintra. At the same time, the group is also investing in hotels without plastic, such as the Vila Galé Collection Alter Real and Vila Galé Serra da Estrela hotels.

These electric vehicle charging stations can be easily identified in the mobile application EV.X, developed by EDP to promote electric mobility and which has already been installed on more than 6 thousand smartphones.
