EDP Comercial and McDonald's Portugal have celebrated a partnership that will be decisive to increase the options for charging electric and hybrid vehicles in the country. In the coming months, upto 150 quick charging points will be installed in some of McDonald's restaurants, in different locations, ensuring that there will be electrical mobility solutions from north to south of Portugal, on the coast and countryside, as in Madeira and in the Azores.  

This is one of the largest partnerships concluded so far in the area of electric mobility in the country, not only by the number of charging points, but also by the convenience of locations and adequacy to the profile of visitors. By the end of the year, the first 100 quick charging points should be installed, which will allow for the equivalent of 100 kilometers of autonomy, to be charged in just 20 to 30 minutes. The chosen equipment enables various types of charging, between direct or alternating current, allowing customers to load their vehicles quickly while enjoying McDonald's services.

This partnership reinforces the several-year relationship between McDonald's and EDP Comercial, which began with energy efficiency solutions for the restaurants chain.

The equipment will be connected to the public network MOBI.E, and may be used by all customers with ab electric mobility card of an ETEM (Electricity Trader for Electric Mobility). If you use the EDP Electric Mobility card and are a residential customer of EDP Comercial, you will have a discount on charging and the guarantee that the energy is 100% green. 

This is the largest partnership in number of charging points established by EDP Comercial to date and will allow for a significantly increase of the MOBI.E public network, providing more and better off-home charging options. This is also another important step in the energy transition of national mobility and towards the decarbonization of the Portuguese economy.

Leader in electric mobility in Portugal, EDP Comercial is committed to leading this path, wanting to surpass 1,000 charging points in Portugal by the end of the year. In 2020, it was the company that grew most in public charging and represents today about 50% of market share on CEME cards, with more than 25,000 issued. EDP also intends to have 40,000 public and private charging points by 2025.

Recently, the company announced the largest public charging hub installed in a municipality in Maia, as well as a partnership with Brisa, BP and Repsol, for the installation of fast and ultra-fast chargers on national motorways.
