EDP Brasil and the BMW Group create electric corridor between Rio and São Paulo

Monday 11, December 2017

EDP Brasil and the BMW Group will build the first corridor of charging stations for electric cars, which will connect the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The initiative envisages the installation of six charging stations by the end of the first quarter of 2018, to charge electric vehicles circulating along the Presidente Dutra Highway, which links the capitals of the two states.

A main player in innovation in the electricity sector, EDP Brasil was the creator of the first projects  in the areas of Intelligent Networks and Work Robotization in the Brazilian market, in addition to having developed the first Smart Grids laboratory in Latin America.

“The electrification of mobility is an insuppressible trend and EDP wants to be at the forefront of this transformation. Through the EDP-BMW partnership, we want to connect two of Brazil's main cities with the appropriate infrastructure to promote electric vehicles in the Brazilian market”, says Miguel Setas, Company chairman.

BMW is a pioneer in the marketing of electric vehicles in Brazil, namely the fully electric BMW i3 and the hybrid BMW i8, as well as in the installation of charging infrastructure, having taken on the responsibility for the installation, through strategic partners,  of nearly 70 charging stations throughout the country.
