EDP and Expresso entrepreneurship program has chosen 10 final candidates

EDP Open Innovation, an acceleration project that joins EDP and Expresso, has already chosen the 10 finalist startups from 10 different countries. This year's edition, for the first time with Beta-i as acceleration partner, received 210 applications from 34 different countries.

The selected teams are Deep (Germany), Ecolibrium Energy (India), EZZING (Spain), GoEpik (Brazil), GoParity (Portugal),  Greeneum Network (Israel), MycroftMind (Chech Republic), Odit-e (France), sensfix BV (Netherlands) e SAMAWATT (Switzerland), representing areas as diverse as Clean Energies, Digital Innovation, Customer Focused Solutions, Intelligent Networks and Energy Storage.

The focus is on startups dedicated to innovation in the field of energy and major industry trends: decarbonization, decentralization and digitization. At a time when innovation and technology are playing an increasingly important role in the energy sector, the jury has focused on innovative projects that can make a difference in a rapidly changing market.

EDP Open Innovation, which is in its seventh edition, aims to challenge entrepreneurs to take their business to the next level. It is a success story, which has already helped accelerate many startups, giving them the tools to grow. Proof of this is this year's interest of 210 teams from 34 different countries, having elected 10 startups from 10 countries, evidencing the international outreach of this initiative," explains Luís Manuel, Member of the Executive Committee of EDP Innovation.

"It is very gratifying for EDP to receive this high number of applications from countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Germany or Brazil. This is the proof that this is an increasingly global project with a very ambitious expansion potential. We are very enthusiastic about the quality of the 10 finalists, who will bring very interesting and distinctive projects to Lisbon," concludes the EDP official.

This award results from the fusion between the project Energy of Portugal and the EDP Innovation Award, a joint project by EDP and Impresa Group with over a decade, having awarded more than half a million euros to innovative startups.

These 10 startups will move to Lisbon in October. Here, they will have the opportunity to benefit from an intense acceleration program co-organized by EDP Starter and Beta-i. The best team will be awarded 50,000 euros, and the top three places will have the opportunity to attend the Web Summit, the largest international event of technology and entrepreneurship.

About EDP Open Innovation:
EDP Open Innovation is an acceleration program for the development of new business projects focused on technological or business model innovation in the area of clean technologies in the energy sector. In partnership with Expresso, this program results from the alliance between the Energia de Portugal project and the EDP Innovation Award (both in Portugal and Brazil). Taking advantage of this cross-border experience, this year the time has come to open applications worldwide, with a jury selected from three key EDP geographies: Portugal, Spain and Brazil.
