EDP challenges amateur and professional athletes to join the second edition of the virtual races

Thursday 15, October 2020

EDP 10K VR is the first of four virtual races and can be run between October 30th and November 1st

After the success of the virtual races held in May, EDP (together with Maratona Clube de Portugal and five other companies) will now sponsor the second edition of this initiative - now with four races of 5 and 10 kilometers, limited to 10,000 athletes.

The first race is sponsored by EDP and will take place between October 30th and November 1st. The race stretches over 10 kilometers and must be run in only one day.

To make the competition even more realistic and challenging, a mobile application has been created to validate runners' performances by recording their distances and times. There will thus be an official ranking, which will allow participants to compare their times and performance with those of other runners, just like in road events.

The VRaces MCP application is available for iPhone and Android phones in their respective app stores. Participants can register directly on the application or on the webpage created for that purpose. Once registered, they just have to select the race or races they want to run. As in the first edition, the races must be run within the stipulated dates. To register their performance, athletes must launch the VRaces MCP app at the start of the race and keep it running until the race is complete.

In addition to a digital race bib and a participation certificate, all participants who complete at least one race will receive a medal alluding to the second edition of the virtual races. The medal will be shipped to the address indicated on the registration form.

Race calendar:
October 30 to November 1 - EDP 10K
November 6-8 - Vodafone 5K
November 13-15 - Renault 10K
November 20-22 - CME 5K

DGS Rules
The organizers call on participants to comply with the rules imposed by the Directorate-General for Health during the race. Maratona Clube de Portugal intends to promote the practice of sports, but always in compliance with the safety and prevention rules issued by the relevant authorities.
