EDP seeks new fado talents

EDP Tanto Fado is the new project sponsored by EDP that wants to change the destiny of Portuguese fado singers. Carminho is the ambassador of this initiative.

"Make some noise, sing some fado!" This is the motto of the new project that EDP launches today. EDP Tanto Fado is the name of the competition that seeks to discover new musical talents in one of the most popular styles in the country, fado, and take them to great stages. Through this contest, the participants will be able to demonstrate their skills and souls as fado singers, and gain an opportunity to move up in the music scene. The winner of the 1st edition of this initiative will perform on the EDP Fado Café stage in the next edition of NOS Alive, and record an album with Sony Music Portugal.


The fado singer Carminho is the ambassador of the EDP Tanto Fado contest. She will be a part of an exclusive workshop with the finalists and will perform in the grand final, scheduled for December 20th. The winner will be chosen by the contest jury in this final.

 
Registration for the contest opens today, October 29th, and can be done on the website - edp.com/edptantofado - until November 26th by submitting a theme in video format. The public will be able to vote for their favorite artists until November 29th. The semifinalists will be announced on December 2nd, and must submit an additional song for a new vote, by both the public and the competition jury. From there, the eight finalists who will play in the grand final will be selected.


Fado was distinguished as Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, in 2011, and is also recognized by EDP as one of the most important characteristics of Portuguese culture, which must be preserved and supported. EDP has marked its path as the Official Energy of Music by supporting several initiatives related to this musical style, giving the EDP fado café stage its name at the NOS Alive festival, and associating itself with the Fado Festival in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Peru, Lima, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.


 “The creation of the EDP Tanto Fado contest reinforces the strategy of supporting Portuguese music and culture, two strategic pillars of the EDP brand, and comes at a time when these initiatives are increasingly important for this sector. "We want to once again give voice and stage to new national talents, this time in the area of fado, ” says Teresa Loreto, EDP's brand director.
Talent contests are not new territory for EDP, which for seven years has supported one of the most important band contests on the market, EDP Live Bands. Exported to Brazil and Spain, this initiative of Portuguese origin has already observed the participation of more than 10,000 bands.
