EDP surpasses landmark of 15GW of contracted capacity in PPAs globally
More than 20% of these long-term contracts were signed to supply data centers to cope with the increase in electricity demand. EDP’s diverse portfolio of client types sustains its leading position in PPA contracting, supplying now more than 41 TWh of renewable energy generation to clients globally.
EDP has reached 15 GWp in long-term contracts (PPAs) with some of the world's largest companies, marking a significant milestone in the company's growth and commitment to renewable energy. Power and utilities, data centers, wholesale and retail, electricity, gas, steam, and manufacturing are the top five sectors leading EDP’s global PPAs. The generation of these PPAs contracted with companies across the globe is approximately 41,5 TWh of renewable electricity from EDP’s utility-scale projects.
In 2024 alone, EDP signed PPAs with 15 clients, with a 15% increase in capacity compared to 2023. This growth underscores the quality of EDP’s assets in producing clean energy to meet its clients' electricity needs worldwide. EDP continues to have a diversified technology mix, with solar and wind assets being the main contributors. Agreements for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) also played an important role in the PPAs signed by EDP in 2024.
Some of the key PPAs closed last year by EDP include the up to 200 MWp PPA with Microsoft in Singapore tied to the nation’s SolarNova initiative, the 44 MWp PPA signed with Amazon for EDP’s largest solar project in Japan to date in Fukushima prefecture, the 184 MWp closed in Europe with a major tech company and the 200 MW tolling agreement in Arizona with theSalt River project.
These PPAs were signed in the four global regions where EDP operates—Europe, North America, South America, and Asia Pacific —and are diversified with clients across various sectors. However, big tech’s rising need for electricity to supply data centers accounted for 45% of the contracts signed by the EDP group in 2024.
By this measure, EDP has established itself as a trusted partner for major tech companies, securing a cumulative 3.2 GW capacity in PPAs for data centers globally (22% of the total). Major tech companies recognize EDP’s integrated position and track record as advantageous and represent a significant share of contracts under negotiations.

“Securing 15 GW of contracted capacity in PPAs is a major milestone that underscores EDP’s position as a trusted energy partner. These agreements reinforce our long-term revenue visibility while playing a crucial role in accelerating the clean energy transition. At EDP, we take pride in leading this shift, supporting our partners in achieving their sustainability goals and driving a greener future”, states Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, CEO of EDP.
As EDP continues to expand its global presence, it remains committed to supporting companies worldwide in adopting more sustainable energy solutions.
