Part of the EU Horizon 2020 Program, SENSIBLE is developing projects in Portugal, Germany and the United Kingdom, involving 14 partners from 6 European countries. The demonstration component in Portugal is led by EDP through its NEW R&D Center for New Energy Technologies.
Set in Valverde village (Évora), the project has already achieved savings of about €300/year per customer, generated through innovative photovoltaic and energy storage systems. It is estimated that these savings can be further boosted by 20 to 25% by introducing advanced flexibility management mechanisms. SENSIBLE tests energy storage and management technologies with the aim of providing the distribution grid with tools that enable optimized management in situations with greater distributed renewable output. Simultaneously, the project implements innovative business models by taking into account the management of the energy flexibility of commercialization companies' customers.
