We assume an effective contribution for achieving the goals undertaken by the United Nations
In 2015, in the United Nations General Assembly, the world leaders decided to assume a set of global goals to change the world until 2030. The agenda that must guide the joint work of governments, citizens, companies and organizations, consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with the ambition of ending poverty, fighting against inequality and stopping climate change.
In response to this challenge we help transforming the way energy is produced, distributed and consumed. EDP orients its action to 8 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Our activity and value proposal allow us to clearly accomplish our commitment under the scope of the Development Goals 7 and 13.
7. Affordable and Clean Energy
We invest in clean sources. Until 2020, we will have 76% of hydro, solar and wind installed capacity, 74% of which have already been reached in 2017.
Through the A2E program, our Group is committed to promote the Access to Energy in the developing countries, prioritizing rural areas without connection to the electric grid, contributing to break their cycle of poverty (off-grid solutions). In 2009, we started a mission in the refugees camp of Kakuma, Kenia, in partnership with UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).
13. Climate Action
Our activity has a positive impact in climate change combat. We commit to reduce our specific CO2 emissions in 75% until 2030 compared to 2005 levels.
Our action is also oriented to achieve other Sustainable Development Goals:
