Empresa continuará responsável pelo fornecimento de energia para 70 municípios do estado

EDP, a company operating across all segments of the energy sector, today signed the renewal of its Energy Distribution Concession contract for another 30 years, covering the 70 municipalities in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. EDP is the first company in the country to have its concession renewed under the new evaluation model established by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).

With a commitment to service quality and infrastructure expansion for its 1.7 million consumers, EDP will invest approximately R$ 5 billion in the state by 2030—an increase of 40% compared to investments made between 2019 and 2024. This increased investment will be directed toward improving customer service processes, continuing the digitalization and automation of the grid, and strengthening the resilience of energy distribution networks, which is essential in the context of climate change. The signing ceremony took place at Palácio Anchieta, in Vitória, and was attended by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the Governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande, the CEO of EDP in South America, João Brito Martins, among other authorities and EDP executives. With the renewal, EDP remains responsible for energy distribution in 90% of Espírito Santo until 2055, reinforcing its commitment to the state and to the people of Espírito Santo by continuing to deliver high-quality service.

“The renewal of the Energy Distribution Concession consolidates and reaffirms the trust placed in EDP by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, regulatory agencies, the Government of Espírito Santo, and our customers. It is a great source of pride for the entire EDP team, to whom I extend my gratitude and dedicate this important milestone”, said João Brito Martins, CEO of EDP in South America.

“When we began operations in the state, we faced a major challenge: to transform the energy sector, improve service quality, and ensure universal access to electricity, thereby improving the lives of the people of Espírito Santo and supporting economic growth. Today, our work has achieved record results, with service quality indicators among the best in the country, reflecting a significant improvement in supply quality. Moreover, our energy has gone beyond the power grid—it has reached people through education, sports and culture. Moving forward, in addition to continuing to support the state’s economic and social development, our efforts will be strategically focused on making our networks smarter, more digital and automated, while ensuring greater reliability and quality in the services we provide to society”, he concluded.

Social Impact
Creating value for society in Espírito Santo through education, culture and sustainability is also a priority for EDP. Over the past four years, around 317,000 people have been impacted by the company’s social projects in the state. One example is the Comunidade IN program, part of the company’s strategy to lead a fair energy transition. It aims to support regional development through various initiatives focused on education, professional training, income generation, dignified housing, access to culture and leisure, conscious consumption, quality energy, energy access, digital inclusion and waste awareness. Every three years, a community within the company’s concession area is selected to receive these initiatives, which are tailored to local needs.

In recent years, the community of Jabaeté, in Vila Velha, has been benefited from the program, with highlights including the Moradia Digna project, which upgraded electrical installations in 30 homes, providing greater dignity and electrical safety for families. Another key initiative is Comunidade Solar, which brings renewable energy through solar panels and solar-powered charging stations in public spaces, along with professional training in photovoltaic system maintenance and installation.

In February of this year, the Comunidade IN program reached the community of Piranema, in Cariacica. In 2025, the area received 50 solar-powered streetlights made from recycled materials through the Litro de Luz project, as well as the Escola da Energia at the neighborhood’s only school. Over the next three years, Piranema will benefit from various initiatives related to the energy transition, grid improvements, and education. Additionally, the company supports the restoration of important historical and cultural landmarks in Espírito Santo, such as the Theatro Carlos Gomes and Igreja dos Reis Magos, among other projects.
