Almost seven million electric kilometers traveled on the EDP public charging network over long weekends

Over the three long weekends in April and early May, more than 40,000 charging sessions were made on EDP's public charging network, making it possible to travel almost seven million kilometers without emissions. During this period, the maximum number of charging sessions on the EDP network in a single day was broken.  The company will continue to invest in electric mobility and, since the beginning of the year, has reinforced the installation of charging points in several municipalities.

EDP continues to increase electric mobility in Portugal and reinforce the charging options available on public roads, in municipalities from North to South of the country. Since the beginning of the year, EDP has been installing more than 250 public charging points in national cities, reinforcing the number of chargers available in urban centers.

The investment in low-power chargers installed on national streets is an important contribution to the adoption of electric mobility in Portugal, as it is estimated that more than half of the Portuguese do not have access to a garage for night charging. These points allow them to charge the vehicle for long periods at night or throughout the working day and during weekends, directly on the public road. With an ever-wider network, charging becomes more predictable and convenient, making it easier to embrace sustainable mobility.

Anadia, Albufeira, Almada, Guarda, Lamego, Lisbon and Palmela are some of the cities where EDP is expanding its public charging network. These chargers are connected to the Mobi.e network and can be used with any card or app from a CEME (Electric Mobility Service Provider).

This growth reflects EDP's commitment to continue contributing to an increasingly comprehensive charging network with different power options. Currently, EDP's electric mobility network is already present in all districts of the country and in almost half of the Portuguese municipalities.

In addition to this reinforcement of charging points on public roads, EDP continues to expand the remaining infrastructure, either through new partnerships with companies in strategic locations (hotels, shopping centres, public access car parks, restaurants and other services with high demand), or through the reinforcement of some of the main national highways.

This ever-growing network, coupled with the increased demand for electric vehicles in Portugal, led the EDP network to break records on one of the days of the three long weekends in April/early May. In total, more than 1000MWh of electricity was charged in more than 40,000 sessions, with enough energy to travel almost seven million kilometers in Portugal without carbon emissions.

Since EDP began investing in the development of electric mobility in the country, more than 2.7 million charging sessions have been carried out at the company's points connected to the public grid. These charges have made it possible to travel more than 350 million kilometers using electricity alone and have avoided more than 40 thousand tons of CO2. The company currently has more than 3,800 contracted charging points across the country.
