Green Firebrick Project
Development of a pilot tunnel kiln for the firing of refractory bricks using green hydrogen as fuel.
A project by:
Project objectives:
Study of the effects of incorporating hydrogen as fuel in a refractory tunnel kiln, under real operating conditions, both on the material intended to be fired, and on the refractory that protects and lines the interior of the kiln.
- Environmental objective: achieve climate neutrality in the INTOCAST production process in Lugones.
- Scientific-technological objective: demonstrate the viability of hydrogen as industrial fuel, replacing natural gas partially or entirely, and study its effects on the different refractories used as tunnel kiln linings.
- Industrial objective: open the door to increasing the firing capacity of various industries, especially refractory ones, using neutral processes.
- Social objective: minimize or eliminate CO2 generation in the plant's environment.
- Political objective: contribute to the guidelines set by the EU on sustainable industrial processes.
Subsidized project by:
Grants for consortia made up of different agents of the Asturian science and technology system, for the development of R&D&I projects in the area of renewable energy and hydrogen.
