EDP strengthens commitment to distributed solar energy with new acquisition in Poland of Zielona-Energia.com

Tuesday 12, July 2022

The acquisition of Zielona-Energia.com will allow EDP to strengthen its position in the Polish distributed solar energy market, where it entered in 2020. Adding its own organic growth and the recent acquisition of Soon Energy, EDP has already contracted almost 30MWp in the first half of this year alone

Three months after making its first major acquisition in the Polish market, EDP Energia Polska is in the process of acquiring yet another company specializing in distributed solar energy, Zielona.Energia.com.

This move represents a further milestone in EDP's expansion strategy within the Polish photovoltaic market, by adding to the group a company with over 58MWp installed in that country, of which around 7MWp were contracted in the first half of this year alone.

Founded in 2013, Zielona-Energia.com adds to EDP a portfolio of business customers from various regions of Poland. Focused on the Small and Medium Business segment, the company's current customers include schools, corporate offices, or agricultural spaces.

"Solar energy will be a fundamental lever to drive the energy transition that the EDP group is committed to leading in the 28 markets where it is present. Poland is a strategic country for this growth, where we were already developing wind projects and where, with this business segment, we intend to reach next year the mark of 100MWp of contracted solar capacity for self-consumption", highlights Vera Pinto Pereira, director of EDP.

Combining EDP's international experience in solar energy installed at clients with the local knowledge of these companies acquired by the group allows to enhance growth in a market in great expansion. The teams of EDP Energia Polska and Soon Energy, a recently acquired company, have already contracted almost 30MWp with corporate clients since the beginning of this year.

One of the most recent and important contracts was signed with PGE Energia Odnawialna, Poland's largest renewable energy producer. EDP, through Soon Energy, will install 12MWp solar power plants at the facilities that this company has in eight regions of Poland. The project should be completed in the first quarter of next year.

In 2021, in addition to consolidating its operational structure in the country and creating a sales network with national coverage, EDP contracted more than 5MWp of capacity in solar self-consumption projects for corporate clients. Now, it wants to grow significantly in that country in the coming years and aims to be one of the leading companies in the distributed solar energy market.
