Approximately 100 children and adolescents will benefit from the project during out-of-school hours, helping to reduce dropout rates and strengthen community ties

EDP, a company operating in all segments of the electric sector, and Instituto Futebol de Rua inaugurated a new sports center in Goiás last Friday,  August 22. The initiative arrives in Goiânia and adds to the existing center in the municipality of Águas Lindas. The project aims to foster values through street football, focusing on the holistic development of children and adolescents.

The new center in Goiânia will serve approximately 100 children and adolescents aged between 7 and 13 during out-of-school hours, helping to reduce school dropout rates and strengthen community bonds. Activities will be based on the methodology of Instituto Futebol de Rua, which includes sports practices, educational, recreational, and cultural activities aimed at citizenship education and the promotion of social values.

The selection of children and adolescents for the project is carried out directly by partner schools, based on criteria related to learning challenges, risk situations, and social vulnerability.

“Education plays a fundamental role in the future of the country, and sports have great potential as a tool for transformation and engagement, helping to promote inclusion and citizenship. In the state of Goiás, we are implementing projects related to digital inclusion and teacher training, valuing local artists, and supporting cultural and health initiatives. Promoting sports complements these efforts and contributes to community development”, emphasizes Dominic Schmal, ESG Director at EDP in South America.

The partnership between EDP and Instituto Futebol de Rua, through the Sports Incentive Law and with support from the City of Goiânia and the Department of Education, highlights the importance of joining forces for social development. The project also indirectly benefits many others, including families, education professionals, and the broader community.

“For over 12 years, our partnership with EDP has been essential in bringing the street football methodology and implementing our projects in different states across Brazil, always focusing on human development! EDP Brasil’s social investment policy is a model of commitment, prioritizing the allocation of resources to the areas that need them most. We have already benefited thousands of children and adolescents and continue to expand this impact with each new center we inaugurate together”, says Alceu de Campos Natal Neto, founder and Executive Director of Instituto Futebol de Rua.

The partnership between EDP and Instituto Futebol de Rua has grown stronger over the years. Between 2012 and 2024, around 3,300 children and adolescents were directly served in 18 cities across eight different states.
