EDP Solidarity Solar Spain

Energy inclusion
Renewable, efficient, and inexhaustible, the sun is one of our most valuable natural resources. At EDP, we believe that this clean energy should be accessible to everyone.
This belief gave rise to the Solidarity Solar program, an initiative designed to promote energy equity by bringing solar energy to those who need it most.
What is Solidarity Solar?
Solidarity Solar is an initiative of Fundación EDP that promotes energy equity by installing photovoltaic solar systems in:
• Homes of vulnerable families
• Facilities of social organizations
The goal is clear: to make solar energy accessible to those who need it most, generating savings, efficiency, and social transformation.
Program purpose
At EDP, we believe that solar energy should be a right, not a privilege. With Solidarity Solar we want to:
- Democratize access to renewable energy, bringing it to communities at risk of exclusion
- Reduce energy consumption and emissions
- Strengthen the social fabric with transformative sustainable solutions
- Promote knowledge and energy efficiency
How does it work?
In collaboration with EDP’s technical teams and a strong network of social and energy partners, the program:
- Conducts energy audits
- Identifies local needs
- Designs customized solutions
- Installs self-consumption solar systems
Program milestones
- June 2022: Fundación EDP signs an agreement with Cáritas Española, investing €75,000+ to improve energy efficiency in Cáritas Diocesanas facilities (Mondoñedo and Soria).
- 2023: Solidarity Solar becomes an independent program, evolving from Energy Solidarity. As the program’s scope became more specialized, Energy Solidarity was restructured into two specific initiatives: Energy Inclusion and Solidarity Solar.
- 2024: Fundación EDP expands its support with an additional €85,000, funding new solar installations in Cáritas centers, with solidarity-based pricing offered by EDP Clientes.
- 2022–2024: Partnership with Energía Sin Fronteras to deliver self-consumption systems to Cáritas centers in Andújar (Jaén), Huesca, and Córdoba.
