EDP launches call for proposals offering up to BRL 500,000 for fair energy transition projects
EDP, a company operating across all segments of the electricity sector, has opened applications for the Energia Solidária (Solidarity Energy) call for proposals, which will allocate up to BRL 500,000 to initiatives focused on a fair energy transition. Eligible projects should present solutions related to Energy Access, Energy Efficiency, and Combating Energy Poverty. Applications are open until November 7 via the Prosa's website.
One of the requirements is that projects must be implemented in municipalities within EDP’s concession and operational areas in Brazil, covering the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo, and Tocantins. The full list of eligible municipalities is available in the call document.
Initiatives aimed at improving energy access and income generation may include shared generation projects linked to workforce training in various areas of the electricity sector. Projects focused on energy efficiency may propose solutions for communities experiencing energy poverty—those with access to electricity but still in need of interventions—or for urban communities not in poverty but where improvements in energy consumption or transitions to renewable sources are still possible.
Priority will be given to projects that promote gender equality and incorporate innovative solutions, including disruptive social technologies. Evaluation criteria include resource availability, proposal consistency and technical capacity, strategic alignment with the call, social relevance and responsiveness to identified needs, synergistic partnerships, cost-effectiveness, social impact, sustainability, scalability, innovation, and location of implementation.
Finalist projects will be announced in January 2026, and the winning initiatives will be revealed in February. Implementation will take place over a 12-month period. “The Energia Solidária call complements other EDP initiatives aimed at promoting social innovation and contributing to environmental preservation, reducing inequalities, and strengthening a fairer, more equitable, and socially responsible society,” says Marcela de Almeida, manager of Instituto EDP.
The call is aligned with the global Y.E.S. (You Empower Society) program, through which EDP supports social responsibility projects focused on a just energy transition.
Energia Viva
Among the projects already supported by the call is Energia Viva: Integrating the SDGs in Schools, which received an investment of BRL 351,000. The initiative installed a solar energy system at the Ernesto Quissak State School in Guaratinguetá (SP), in the Paraíba Valley, generating savings of approximately BRL 1,300 between May and July this year. Winner of the 2023 call, the project—currently nearing completion—also provided community training, with a focus on preparing women for “green jobs,” strengthening social inclusion and income generation. Additionally, it implemented a community garden that combines environmental education, circular economy practices, and the promotion of healthy food consumption.
