EDP launches call for proposals to install solar energy systems in social organizations
EDP, a company operating across all segments of the electricity sector, has launched the Solar Social call for proposals, aiming to allocate up to R$ 650,000 to bring renewable energy to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The initiative will select 20 nonprofit institutions to receive solar energy systems at their headquarters, enabling them to reduce electricity costs and operate more sustainably. Applications are open until September 5 via the website: https://prosas.com.br/editais/15735.
Eligible organizations must be located within EDP’s concession areas in São Paulo and Espírito Santo (municipalities listed in the call for proposals) and must submit a project detailing how they plan to reinvest the savings generated into another socially impactful initiative, such as improvements to educational infrastructure.
Selection criteria will include the organization’s social impact and alignment with EDP’s strategic pillars (Energy and Education); governance and project management capacity; and implementation conditions, such as physical space and suitable infrastructure for installing a solar energy generation system of up to 5 kWp. In addition to installing the solar energy system, EDP will offer training on topics related to Energy Efficiency, Responsible Energy Consumption, and solar panel maintenance. Selected projects will be announced in December, with implementation scheduled throughout 2026.
“Our social impact strategy is built around the pillar ‘Energy of Tomorrow,’ which encompasses initiatives aimed at expanding access to energy, promoting training and employability in this field, and fostering energy efficiency. This aligns with EDP’s global strategy to lead a fair and inclusive energy transition,” explains Dominic Schmal, ESG Director at EDP in South America.
In 2024, the company increased its investments in social energy transition projects by 34% compared to the previous year, with approximately R$ 1.4 million allocated. EDP’s social projects that bring renewable energy to communities totaled 45 kWp installed and included more than 200 educational activities focused on energy-related topics.
Examples of EDP’s initiatives include the Solar Community project in Jabaeté, Vila Velha (ES), which is bringing renewable energy to local institutions and installing solar-powered charging stations in public squares and other communal spaces; and the Solar Social Microplant project, which has generated energy bill credits for over 150 families in Favela dos Sonhos, Ferraz de Vasconcelos (SP).
The Solar Social call complements other EDP initiatives, such as Energia Solidária, and is aligned with the company’s global program Y.E.S. (You Empower Society), which supports social responsibility projects for a fair energy transition.
