EDP will invest around R$ 400 million in energy transmission in Goiás until 2027

EDP, a company operating in all segments of the electric sector, plans to invest over R$ 400 million in expanding and modernizing Goiás' transmission infrastructure between 2025 and 2027. This year, investments are directed towards reinforcements and improvements such as the installation of teleprotection, line elevation, equipment replacement, and capacity expansion in strategic substations – especially those located in the metropolitan region (Goiânia Leste, Xavantes, Anhanguera, and Pirineus) and in the northern part of the state (Itapaci). In the coming years, the focus will be on the digitalization of substations and new connection points.

The works will bring greater reliability and operational safety, reducing failures and interruptions, as well as increasing system efficiency, with greater load capacity, flexibility, and lower electrical losses. Highlights include the installation of fiber optic cables in nine EDP transmission lines in Goiás, equivalent to 473 km of coverage. These enhancements reinforce the reliability of the electrical grid, in addition to expanding the fiber optic infrastructure in the state, essential for the new economy.

"We are investing to ensure that Goiás has a safer, digital, and future-ready transmission network. The ongoing works reduce failures, increase efficiency, and enhance system integration, while also contributing to the state's connectivity. With this, we are laying the foundations to boost everything from the energy transition to the development of new technology hubs that depend on stable energy and high-capacity communication," emphasizes Daniel Sarmento, Vice President of Transmission at EDP in South America.

EDP has been operating in transmission in the state of Goiás since 2022, when it took over the management of Celg T, acquired in an auction for R$ 2.1 billion. The portfolio includes 756 kilometers of transmission lines and 14 substations. Since then, EDP has allocated more than R$ 480 million in investments until 2025, in a continuous plan of modernization and expansion of its infrastructure.
Distributed Generation and Solar Digital

Solar energy, one of the pillars of EDP's strategy, has also been a priority in Goiás. Between 2023 and 2024, the company invested around R$ 230 million in the construction of 11 distributed generation plants in the state: Padre Bernardo Iaciara I, Iaciara II, Anápolis, Leopoldo de Bulhões, Orizona, Catalão, Paranaiguara, Jataí, Matrinchã, and São Miguel do Araguaia. They operate in shared and dedicated modes, with a total installed capacity of 46 MWp. Only two plants – Paranaiguara and Catalão – are awaiting energization, scheduled for December.

The company's solar plants in the state, such as the one in Iaciara, serve companies – generating energy for the facilities and branches of Banco do Brasil, for example – as well as residential consumers, small and medium-sized businesses through the Solar Digital service, which provides access to renewable energy without the need to install solar panels or alter the electrical grid.

In addition to businesses and commercial establishments, Solar Digital is also available to individuals. Residential consumers and companies throughout the state with a monthly electricity bill of at least R$ 250 can join, with a discount of around 20% on the bill. The process works through the generation of energy by EDP's solar plants in the state, which is injected into the local distributor's electrical grid. The bill continues to be received by the consumer as usual. Additionally, the customer receives a statement of the energy generated by the solar plant and their proportional credits, which will be compensated in subsequent months. For example, a consumer with a monthly bill of R$ 250 can save around R$ 50 per month and approximately R$ 600 annually.

EDP also operates in the free energy market, serving large and small consumers, who are in medium and high voltage, through retail or wholesale contracting. The company was a pioneer in creating a retail trader in Brazil in 2018 and has since remained among the leaders in this segment. The company is attentive to the gradual opening of the free energy market in the country and continues to innovate in its portfolio, investing in the expansion of the commercial team, digitalization in migration systems, and customer relationship platforms.

Investment also for social impact
Reinforcing its commitment to the social development of Goiás, EDP is investing more than R$ 1.3 million in initiatives that generate a positive impact on the state's communities through education, sports, health, and culture.

One of the ongoing initiatives is the Energy School program, which aims to promote learning and engage the student environment in energy topics relevant to society and the environment. Actions began in March and take place throughout the year, involving activities aimed at teacher training, digital inclusion, distribution of multimedia kits and tablets, cultural contests, among others. Two public schools in Goiânia and Aparecida de Goiânia are participating.

In the health sector, EDP is making two new contributions in 2025: to the Banco de Olhos de Goiás, which plans to perform around 400 cataract surgeries and donate 190 prescription glasses from September 2025 to August 2026 through the project A New Look: Elderly of Morrinhos, and to the Sensory Motor Stimulation Room at APAE Morrinhos, which aims to promote rehabilitation and improve the quality of life of children and adolescents with intellectual, multiple disabilities, and autism. Through the creation of an adapted space equipped with appropriate materials and devices, the APAE project will offer, with EDP's support, activities in sensory, motor, and cognitive areas, focusing on the development of each individual.

The ongoing social initiatives and investments in 2025 add to the R$ 2.7 million already invested in the region between 2022 and 2024 for the implementation of 12 projects that benefited more than 3,300 people in the state.
