EDP in Poland supports a unique biodiversity and technology initiative

In southern Poland, a collaborative effort is breaking new ground in wildlife observation. With support from EDP, a trailblazing project is capturing rare visual data on migratory birds by using custom-engineered trackers developed specifically for long-distance travel.

Launched in the Opole region, this pioneering research initiative is offering an entirely new perspective on the lives of white storks. As they prepare for their first migration, young birds have been fitted with compact, solar-powered cameras — marking the first time globally that advanced imaging technology has been combined with avian field research in this way.

These miniature systems are providing researchers with valuable insights into the movements, interactions, and environments these birds encounter on their transcontinental journey. The information gathered will enrich scientific understanding of migratory behavior and the ecological challenges facing bird populations.

This endeavor is the result of a unique alliance between academic experts, conservation advocates, and technology specialists, reflecting EDP’s continued dedication to advancing environmental knowledge through local engagement and responsible investment.

Through projects like this, EDP reaffirms its long-term commitment to innovation, ecological research, and partnerships that strengthen local communities while supporting global sustainability goals.
