The Margonin wind farm, a landmark project for EDP in Poland as its first large-scale renewable development in the country, celebrates its fifteenth anniversary this year. Located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, Margonin has an installed capacity of 120 MW across 60 wind turbines.

Since beginning operations, it has produced close to 4,000 GWh of clean electricity. In a country where the power system has historically relied on conventional generation sources, Margonin represented a pioneering step in demonstrating that renewables could provide a reliable and scalable alternative. The project also marked EDP’s entry into the Polish market, laying the ground for its continued growth over the past years. Since then, EDP has installed over 1 GW of renewable capacity in the country through a combination of onshore wind and solar projects. Currently the company operates a portfolio of more than 0.5 GW across 14 wind farms.

Margonin was the foundation of EDP’s renewable strategy in Poland, demonstrating the scalability of wind energy and its strategic value to national energy security. Fifteen years later, the project has confirmed that renewable generation can operate efficiently and stably, supporting grid resilience and accelerating Poland’s path toward a lower-carbon economy.

To commemorate the anniversary, EDP hosted a celebration event with local authorities, such as Janusz Piechocki, the Mayor of Margonin, and other community members. The day included live music, educational activities for local schools on the benefits of wind energy, and a community football tournament.

EDP began operations in Poland in 2007 through EDP Renewables, developing utility-scale wind projects, and expanded its presence in 2020 with EDP Energia Polska, focused on distributed solar solutions for corporate clients. Today, EDP Renewables operates more than 600 MW of installed capacity, while EDP Energia Polska has contracted nearly 270 MWp of solar capacity, reinforcing EDP’s commitment to supporting Poland’s energy transition through a diversified, multi-technology approach.
