Thirty students begin a new stage of training at EDP thanks to the Martín González del Valle Scholarships
One more year EDP has welcomed thirty students of the University of Oviedo who, thanks to the Martín González del Valle Scholarships, are beginning a new training stage at the energy company.
The day began, early in the morning, with a presentation by the Rector of the University of Oviedo, Ignacio Villaverde, in which he emphasised the privilege enjoyed by the students who are starting their internships at EDP today of having had the opportunity to study at an institution such as the University of Oviedo. "This university has not only provided you with a solid academic foundation, it has also prepared you to face the challenges of the professional world with responsibility, innovation and commitment. This collaboration is a perfect example of how the union between university and business can transform lives and create value for society as a whole".
Next, various collaborative activities were organised with the aim of enabling the interns to get to know each other as well as their tutors, sharing an activity that also allowed them to learn more about the mission of EDP.
The activities were chaired by Ana Santos Pedrosa, head of the People & Organization area for Iberia at EDP, who pointed out that "these young people have a unique opportunity to put their knowledge into practice, continue learning and contribute to a sustainable energy future". Among the new young employees is Marcos Álvarez, who was confident that "at EDP there are many reference professionals from whom we can learn a lot".
EDP's welcome to the thirty students will continue throughout the week with more activities. Tomorrow, November 4th, they will visit the La Barca Hydroelectric Power Plant and on Wednesday, November 5th, they will participate in an environmental volunteering activity at Xagó Beach.
EDP is committed to the talent of young people and this scholarship program is yet another example of its commitment to education and to the new generations. The Martin González del Valle scholarships are aimed at students of 20 bachelor's degrees and 6 postgraduate or master's degrees, including Data Science and Engineering, Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering; Management and Business Administration, Modern Languages and Literatures; Commerce and Marketing or Law.
The scholarships, the result of an alliance with the University of Oviedo, have a maximum duration of 10 months, are part-time, hence four hours per day, in a hybrid format like the rest of the company's workers and compatible with academic activity.
EDP assigns each student a tutor who is responsible for supervising the work planned during the internship. EDP also provides each student with an appropriate workspace and the necessary materials to enable them to carry out their work properly.
