EDP presents the Collegiate Surf Circuit in São Paulo and Espírito Santo
EDP, a company operating in all segments of the electricity sector, announces the first edition of the EDP School Surf Circuit 2025.
The action is part of the company's global strategy to promote surfing as a modality that combines quality of life and sustainability through sports practice and ocean protection, also linking the circuit to social and environmental actions. About 380 young people, aged between 12 and 18, are expected to participate. The event will consist of four stages – two in São Paulo and two in Espírito Santo – between August and October.
In São Paulo, the two stages - which take place in São Sebastião, at Baleia and Camburi beaches - are part of the Paulista Circuit of Surfing youth categories calendar, organized by the Surf Federation of the State of São Paulo (SPSurf), the main youth championship of the state in which the team that will represent São Paulo in the Brazilian championship is defined. With the Espírito Santo stage, EDP's idea is to boost the sport among young people.
"Surfing has been consolidating in the country and in the world, having become, including, an Olympic modality, which shows the strength and potential of this sport. For EDP, which generates renewable energy, encouraging a modality that is directly related to the energy of nature and the oceans is something that aligns with our performance and brand positioning. With the sponsorship of these stages, we hope to contribute to the development of the sport and to the growth and revelation of new Brazilian athletes,” emphasizes Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, Marketing, Communication, and Stakeholders director at EDP in South America.
This is the third consecutive year that the company supports surfing in Brazil, but now with naming rights in the circuits presented by the company.
First stage on Father's Day
The first stage takes place on August 9 and 10, the weekend of Father’s Day, at Praia da Baleia, in São Sebastião, on the coast of São Paulo, as the new showcase of grassroots surfing in the state, and paves the way for defining the Paulista champions and the team that will represent São Paulo in the 2026 Brazilian Championship. For the first time in the history of Paulista surfing, the circuit will be completely free for athletes, reinforcing the commitment to democratize the sport. Young surfers will compete in the 12-year and 14-year categories. To celebrate the date and participation in the circuit, the athletes and their guardians will participate in a tag team format heat, in which they take turns catching waves within a set period. The final score is the result of the sum of the team's best performances.
“This is a project born with the mission of democratizing access to high-performance surfing and revealing new talents. The school now also becomes a strategic space for the sport’s growth,” highlights Zé Paulo, president of SPSurf.
Simultaneously, EDP carries out socio-environmental activities to involve the community in the circuit. Some schools will receive environmental education actions including lectures, activities, and a contest with the installation of plastic cap collectors in the classes. The material will be recycled and transformed into wax scraper keychains.
In Espírito Santo, the stages are scheduled to take place in August and September, and then, in October, the circuit returns to São Paulo for the final stage.
