EDP, a company that operates in all areas of the Brazilian electricity sector, is conducting the Energy Academy, a program that aims to promote learning and engage the student environment in energy-related topics that are relevant to society and the environment. This year, participating institutions are challenged to develop creative content focusing on the theme Energy Cycle.

Program actions began in March and continue throughout the year, involving activities geared towards teacher training, digital inclusion, distribution of multimedia kits and tablets, cultural contests, among others. In June, for example, the students' model presentations for the Energy Academy Award took place.

The works were created in the classroom, under the guidance of teachers, on the theme Paths of Energy, Paths of the Future: Generation, Transmission, Distribution, and Consumption, aiming to stimulate reflection on energy and its impact on daily life, fostering creativity and the reuse of recyclable materials in artistic production, reinforcing environmental awareness. The award has three categories - Students, Teachers, and Schools - with various prizes, including project kits and trips, including up to R$ 50,000.00 in improvements for the winning schools.

In 2025, more than 10,000 students and 900 teachers from 44 public schools in ten Brazilian states are benefiting: Amapá, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo, and Tocantins. Held for 23 years, the program was known as EDP in Schools until 2024. This year, it was renamed Energy School and aims to enhance the digital and innovative skills of teachers and develop critical thinking among students through training for technology use, offering digital content, and active teaching methodologies.

“We believe in the transformative role of education for society and, therefore, we have been promoting and improving this program for over 20 years, which aims to contribute to improving the quality of student life for students from 1st to 9th grade and the indicators of public education in the communities where we operate,” states Dominic Schmal, ESG director at EDP in South America.

The Energy Academy is aligned with the Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC) and the UN's 2030 agenda, which establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved in the coming years. With this initiative, EDP contributes to the goals of SDGs 1 (poverty eradication), 4 (quality education), 10 (reduction of inequalities), and 11 (sustainable cities and communities).
