With an investment of R$ 690 thousand, works began in September and are expected to be completed by December

EDP, a company that operates in all segments of the electricity sector, in partnership with Moradigna NGO, is renovating 60 homes of families in the communities of Miguel Badra, known as Portelinha, in Suzano (SP), and Acréscimo das Laranjeiras, in Serra (ES). With an investment of R$ 690 thousand, the objective is to mainly improve the electrical infrastructure of the properties, providing more safety and energy efficiency for the families, and improving housing conditions. There are 30 homes in each state, and the completion of the works is scheduled for December.

In addition to the renovations, the project also aims to raise awareness about energy usage. In community workshops held in August, residents of both communities had the opportunity to learn more about consumption reduction, bill reading, and electrical safety, expanding the social impact of the project. The families benefitting from the renovations will participate in individual workshops in November on conscious energy consumption, considering their realities and needs.

“We seek to include the communities within our area of activity in our energy transition actions, aiming primarily to expand access to renewable energy and promote awareness, efficiency, economy, and safety, factors that impact social development and living conditions of people. We believe that initiatives like this are essential to ensure we have a fair energy transition in a country where the energy matrix is already predominantly renewable,” emphasizes Dominic Schmal, ESG Director at EDP in South America.

The first stages of the project were carried out in July, when teams from EDP and Moradigna visited the two communities and developed a social and technical diagnosis that allowed them to understand the realities of the families and homes, and define which would be assisted by the project. The selection considered criteria such as social vulnerability, source of income, and the property's registration status with the competent bodies. The residents' interest in regularizing the property also influenced the selection process.

In recent years, EDP and Moradigna NGO have partnered in various actions that contributed to improving the quality of life of communities in the regions where the company operates and expanding access to renewable and safe energy. In 2024, in Jabaeté, Vila Velha (ES), improvements were made to the electrical infrastructure of three community institutions (Projeto Tons de Amoras, Instituto GG5, and Associação de Nova Jabaeté) to enable the implementation of solar energy systems at the locations. Through the 2023 EDP Schools Award, the three winning educational institutions—EM Nossa Senhora das Dores and EMEF Jorge Eneas Sperb, in Tramandaí (RS), and Escola Severino Barbosa, in Areial (PB)—were benefited with renovations that promoted the revitalization of the spaces in 2024.
