In Spain, creating job opportunities for vulnerable young people.
Reinforcing EDP Foundation’s commitment to sustainability, Energy Solidarity’s program aims to improve energy sustainability and economical of vulnerable families and NPOs, contributing also to the change in consumption habits.
Reinforcing energy solidarity
The Energy Solidarity program, by EDP Foundation, was outlined to increase the safety, welfare, and energy efficiency of the most vulnerable families and also Nonprofit Organizations (NPOs).
Main stages within the program:
1 - Identifying families, by Cáritas and the Red Cross, through the analysis of the energy situation of several homes;
2 - Scheduling of visitations, by EDP, to elaborate a report, that will include, besides other information, proposals for the improvement of energy efficiency of each of the families;
3 - Implementation of improvement actions. Among others, is the replacement of basic equipment, such as radiators, boilers, and lighting. Additionally, the assurance of information about habits on efficient use of energy, allows families to spend in a sustainable way and according to their economic capacity.
The Energy Solidarity takes on identical objectives in regard to the installations of Non-Profit Organizations while developing similar activities to the ones families have, in a way to improve the energy and economical sustainability of the installations mentioned.
In 2020, the EDP Foundation has allied to the pilot project of the first solidarity “Barrio Solar”, powered by renewable energy, in Zaragoza, Spain. Besides the technical audits, processing of energy certificates, technical inspections, or the replacement of basic equipment (such as LEDs, radiators, boilers, etc.), the Solar Neighborhood Office was created to develop awareness, education, and counseling actions; and environmental and energetic initiatives, that will be available for every resident.
