Context: Renewable energy sources have already a significant contribution to the Cabo Verde’s energy mix. To continue this path, the management and operation procedures of the distribution network need to be modernized.

Project objectives: Assess the opportunities and challenges for coordinated integration of smart grid technologies in Cabo Verde's distribution system to further increase the uptake of renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency.

What EDP NEW did:

• Site surveys focused on the status of the country's electricity sector, namely concerning the current deployment of smart meters at the substations level

• Benchmark of the most mature and robust smart grid solutions

• Final roadmap definition, focusing on recommendations to create an enabling environment for smart grids deployment in the national distribution system
