WRISE, Green Umbrella Tour Hog Creek Wind Project

Organizations that facilitate collaboration among more than 200 area nonprofits, business, educational institutions, and governmental entities focused on the environmental aspects of sustainability, for an educational tour of the Hog Creek Wind Project – EDPR’s newest project in the state of Ohio.  More than 40 people loaded a bus to travel to Ada, Ohio, for the tour.  During the bus ride, participants learned about EDPR’s history in Ohio and the current state of renewable energy policy from Seth Kaplan (Government Affairs Senior Manager – Eastern Region).

The 66 MW wind farm is composed of 30 Vestas wind turbines and produces enough electricity to power 19,000 average Ohio homes annually.  Participants had the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of an operational commercial wind project and while on site, were given tours of the operational hub, maintenance and equipment facility, and substation.  In addition to the exclusive tour, registrants also had the chance to speak with EDPR’s site team including Ben Werkowski (Operations Manager – Hog Creek Wind Project and Timber Road Wind Farm) and John McConville (Field Service Technician I), who shared their knowledge and expertise to the delight of all participants.
