On September 4, 2009, Barclays Global Investors UK Holdings Ltd (Barclays) notified EDP that, in accordance with article 20 of the Portuguese Securities Code, it came to hold 74,159,316 ordinary shares of EDP, which corresponds to 2.03% of EDP's share capital and 2.05% of the respective voting rights. The significant shareholding resulted from the acquisition of 212,932 shares by Barclays Global Investors Ltd, 397,402 shares by Barclays Global Investors NA and 5,727 shares by Barclays Global Fund Advisors, which were performed in the stock exchange on September 2, 2009.

Barclays also informed that the chain of entities (controlled by Barclays) relevant for the calculation of the significant shareholding in accordance with number 1 of article 20 of the Portuguese Securities Code are the following:

- Barclays Global Investors Ltd, which holds 18,665,435 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.51% of EDP's share capital and 0.52% of the respective voting rights;

- Barclays Global Investors (Deutschland) AG, which holds 1,665,979 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.05% of EDP's share capital and 0.05% of the respective voting rights;

- Barclays Global Investors NA, which holds 43,773,196 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 1.20% of EDP's share capital and 1.21% of the respective voting rights;

- Barclays Global Fund Advisors, which holds 10,054,706 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.27% of EDP's share capital and 0.28% of the respective voting rights;
