Occupational Health and Safety
Ensuring the occupational health and safety of all those who contribute to the development of the activities of companies that are part of EDP Group, including employees, suppliers, service providers, customers, and other stakeholders, is a fundamental value and a priority for the success of EDP as a business group. The consolidation of a positive safety culture is only possible with the participation and involvement of everyone in a participatory and collaborative attitude towards workplace safety.
People are at the center of EDP Group's strategic agenda, which assumes the responsibility of ensuring the necessary conditions for their adaptation to new work demands driven by business evolution and process digitalization, particularly in matters related to OHS.
The methodology adopted by EDP to ensure, in a coherent and systematic way, not only the control of occupational risks related to the Group's activities but also the improvement of OHS performance and the constant observance of compliance obligations, consisted of the implementation of a structured Safety Management System according to ISO 45001:2018, "Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use".
The constant reinforcement of the culture of Health and Safety at Work is a determination made by corporate management in the EDP Group, achieved through developing awareness, strengthening wills and the availability of the necessary resources for:
- provide safe and healthy working conditions to prevent injuries and adverse health effects ensure compliance with legal requirements and other requirements voluntarily assumed by the EDP Group
- ensuring compliance with legal requirements and other requirements voluntarily undertaken by the EDP Group
- promoting the training and informing of workers regarding activity-related risks, through raising their awareness of compliance with safety standards and procedures
- protecting facilities and equipment by adopting the best techniques, combined with monitoring and updating operating procedures in order to eliminate dangers and reduce risks to workers, service providers and stakeholders who might come into contact with the EDP Group’s infrastructures
- ensuring the participation and consultation of workers or their representatives in planning, implementing and evaluating the performance of Occupational Health and Safety management.
- Ensure that in the design and development of products, sales, projects, execution of works, operation and maintenance of assets, all safety requirements are integrated in advance, minimizing risks, in order to ensure the planning of investments that guarantee safe and sustainable solutions throughout the value chain and for all stakeholders
The results regarding EDP’s main OH&S indicators reflect the outcomes of actions and initiatives throughout the year to improve workplace safety conditions, in particular in the areas of training and awareness raising, risk assessment and control, preventive action with employees of service providers and an increase in the audits and inspections programme.
