Access to Energy - 8th Edition
We believe that the future is electric and renewable, and that sustainability can make a difference in the lives of many people who are in remote locations without access to energy.
The 8th edition has an endowment of 1 million euros to invest in sustainable and clean energy projects, which helps to alleviate energy poverty on our planet. Organizations may apply for co-funding from 50.000 euros to 150.000 euros, covering up to 75% of the project costs of non-profit entities and up to 50% of the project costs of for-profit entities.
In this edition we will support projects that are located in these countries:
- Kenya
- Malawi
- Mozambique
- Nigeria
- Brazil
Projects must address one of these areas of activity:

8th Edition Applications
Organizations with or without profit can apply. Individuals or groups of individuals are not eligible for funding.
Organizations must be legally established and registered for more than 2 years. For eligibility purposes, the two-year period is considered up to September 2026.
Project promoters may be from any country in the world, but projects must be implemented in the countries indicated in the Regulation: Brazil, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, and Nigeria.
The project must be limited to a single country. Projects covering two countries are not eligible.
We emphasize that local partnerships are very relevant for the evaluation of the proposed project.
Applications will be managed through the online platform. Please refer to the document “Application Instructions” for more information.
Clean energy sources such as solar, hydro, wind, and biomass. Fossil fuels, unproven solutions, or those in early-stage development are not eligible for funding.
The energy solutions to be implemented must bring an effective benefit to beneficiaries and be highly relevant to promoting energy sustainability. Different clean energy sources can be included in a project, as long as the logic of benefit to the target community is objectively demonstrated.
The Fund focuses on five main areas where energy provides a fundamental contribution: education, health, water, businesses, and community. The description of each action area on the Regulation page includes examples of potential projects but is not limited to them. Projects may fit within these categories. Please consult previous editions for more information on the types of supported projects.
If an organization has already benefited from support from the A2E Fund in a previous edition, the same project is not eligible; a new project must be submitted.
If the proposed project focuses exclusively on expansion activities and commercial activities, without considering all selection criteria (social impact, partnerships, etc.), and, for example, most of the co-funding requested is for Human Resources or development expenses to support expansion, it will not be considered.
Depending on the type of organization, it may be the Annual Activity Report and/or the Financial Report. These documents also help assess the level of experience, financial management capacity, and type of activities the organization carries out, so it is important that the reports shared are clear and transparent regarding these aspects.
Projects are evaluated according to the criteria defined in the Regulation:
- social relevance
- project development
- experience in similar projects
- project viability
- target audience
- sustainability
- partnerships
- replicability and scalability
If any clarification or additional information is required during the analysis of the proposed project, the A2E team will contact applicants via email. The decision will be made by a committee of specialists.
Selected and non-selected projects will be notified by email regarding the final decision.
A Collaboration Agreement will be signed between EDP and the applicant. The agreement will include the detailed budget, timeline, milestones for achieving results and reporting, adjustments to the project, and will be agreed upon before signing.
For additional information or clarification, you can register for one of the information sessions, taking place on April 10th at 11:00 (BST) in English and at 14:00 (BST) in Portuguese. Alternatively, you may use the contact email A2E@edp.com
