Modernising the networks in an electrified world

The challenges of electricity transmission and distribution networks are strengthening and modernising structures, increasing efficiency levels and preparing them for a growing electrified world with increasingly distributed resources. Digitisation will also play a key role in supporting this transition, by automating numerous processes and increasing the network's intelligence.

It is important to adapt the world's networks to the increase in energy consumption - driven by increasing electrification and population growth, without forgetting new requirements and means of use, such as electric mobility, and the high diversity and intermittence of renewable energy generation sites. This is the path that EDP has been following, investing in renewables, but also in solutions for better network management.

A networked global company that is continuously growing
For EDP Group's portfolio, energy networks are a highly relevant operation in three countries: Portugal, Spain, and Brazil.
EDP Group’s total low, medium and high voltage lines measure close to 387.000 km.

Transparency and Data Sharing to Facilitate the Energy Transition

At EDP, we believe that data sharing is essential to promote product and service innovation, foster co-creation of value, drive economic development, and act as a catalyst for the energy transition, helping build a more sustainable future for all.
To reinforce this commitment, we provide open data access portals dedicated to each of our geographies – Portugal, Spain, and Brazil. Through these portals, students, municipalities, companies, and other stakeholders can access a wide range of real-time data, enabling more efficient management and informed decision-making tailored to the needs of each territory.

The GridWise project

The GridWise project emerged as a response to the growing challenges in managing the Distribution Network, especially at Low Voltage (LV), due to the
EDP Group’s networks companies

These are some of the companies that help us operate all the networks we have within our operations.
