Freguesia + Zero

EDP Comercial will offer a month of free energy to the country's most sustainable parish

Miércoles 15, Septiembre 2021

Company customers who complete challenges related to protecting the planet will contribute to the election of 'Parish + Zero'. This initiative can be followed on Planeta Zero, EDP's sustainability program, which already has more than 450 thousand subscribers.

Mainland Portugal has more than three thousand parishes and EDP Comercial is looking for the 'greenest' one. The company is challenging the Portuguese people to participate in a healthy competition among parishes, completing daily challenges in the EDP's sustainability program and contributing to a cleaner planet.

The missions that make a parish greener are available on Planeta Zero, within the EDP Comercial's Zero app, and include the exchange of plastic bottles for glass bottles, participating in workshops on food waste, turning off the appliances that are on standby or learning to reuse plastic caps.

Every week, new challenges will be presented to EDP customers, who accumulate points on Planeta Zero for each accomplished mission. These points – or Zs – are included in the balance of each parish and, next month, EDP Comercial will reveal the 'Parish + Zero', where more sustainable challenges were met. Residents of this parish who are EDP Comercial customers and who have participated in these challenges will get a month of free energy.

To find the most supportive inhabitants of their parish and of a greener planet, EDP Comercial has just launched a campaign with 'Freguesinhos' – whose ambassadors are João Manzarra and Alice Trewinnard, who challenge their followers to participate and call on their neighbors.

This is another initiative of Planeta Zero, EDP's sustainability program that promotes and rewards sustainable behavior. Through the EDP Zero app or on the edp.pt website, the company's customers find challenges, tips and workshops linked to energy efficiency, reducing waste and protecting the planet. By participating, they earn points that give access to prizes linked to sustainability.

Since it was created a year ago, more than 450,000 people have signed up for Planeta Zero, receiving more than 16 million tips, challenges and prizes. With Planeta Zero, Portuguese people also helped to collect more than a ton of garbage from Portuguese beaches during the summer.
