Social impact

Generating positive social impact everyday

At EDP, we are committed to supporting the sustainable development of the communities where we operate. Through strategic social investment—including donations, partnerships, volunteering, and community-driven programs—we aim to create long-term positive impact while building trust.

In addition to addressing potential impacts of our operations, we develop initiatives that respond to local needs and align with our global mission to drive a just and inclusive energy transition.

Our efforts are structured around six core pillars of the Fair Energy Transition program:

  • Solar Energy Access – Expanding clean energy to schools, social organizations, and underserved communities.
  • Fighting Energy Poverty – Delivering efficient, cost-saving housing solutions to low-income families.
  • Upskilling and Reskilling – Training underrepresented groups in renewable energy, especially near EDP operations.
  • Energy Education – Engaging younger generations in the importance of clean energy.
  • Environmental Sustainability – Supporting ocean and forest restoration, biodiversity, and conservation efforts.
  • Impact Investment & Capital Support – Funding local businesses that contribute to a fair, sustainable energy future.

Together, these actions reflect our mission that the energy transition must be fair, inclusive, and rooted in strong community relations.

The best way to say Y.E.S. to Social Impact

EDP's 'You Empower Society' (Y.E.S.) is a brand that identifies all our social projects worldwide. We believe it is an enabler of a positive culture towards an even more positive impact on multiple sectors of society where EDP operates. We say YES to 5 main areas: Y.E.S. to Energy , Y.E.S. to Planet , Y.E.S. to Skills, Y.E.S to Culture  and  Y.E.S. to Community. Five different and comprehensive clusters to organize our multiple activities and projects across the globe.

How are we adding value to the life of those around us?

Combining a diverse social investment policy with the outmost respect for human rights, while challenging our own to be better every day is a good way to start.

Our Impact

Most part of our social investment is in projects whose scope of action contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but we also use the international methodology B4SI - Business for Societal Impact to characterize and access the voluntary investment and impact on the communities.

Our Social Investment Policy

The EDP group's Social Investment Policy establishes the objectives, corporate strategies and regulations regarding EDP's Social Investment, which is expressed in social responsibility programs and projects in the community through own and collaborative initiatives, donations, and volunteering.
