OverEasy
EDP puts next-gen vertical, plug-and-play solar panels to the test.
EDP is committed to accelerating the energy transition by testing the next generation of solar technologies on our own buildings. Starting with the Begasa (EDP Redes Epaña) pilot, in Lugo, Spain, it will help reduce the building’s grid consumption while opening new frontiers for solar across Europe.
OverEasy, a Norwegian startup and finalist in the 2024 Free Electrons programme, is bringing prefabricated vertical solar panels straight to the rooftops: capturing more energy in the early morning, late afternoon, and winter months, when it matters most. By combining these panels with conventional horizontal systems, EDP is unlocking new solar potential, helping to cut grid reliance and shape a cleaner future for all.
OverEasy’s vertical bifacial panels offer a new angle on solar for rooftops across Europe. Prefabricated and plug-and-play, each panel captures sunlight on both sides, making the most of early mornings, late afternoons, and winter light that traditional flat panels can miss. This boosts total output and helps stabilise building energy use throughout the day.
Engineered for low weight, fast assembly, and compatibility with both green and flat roofs, these panels sit safely without the need for heavy frames or complex fixings. Their vertical design means rooftops remain accessible, green roofs still thrive, and panels stay productive even in challenging conditions.
With OverEasy, solar becomes possible for rooftops once thought too limited. At Begasa in Lugo, these panels are not just advancing EDP’s portfolio, they’re actively cutting grid use and speeding up the renewable transition.
EDP and OverEasy have brought these panels to Begasa, running daily tests on assembly time, energy output, and the seamless “plug-and-play” cabling. The result is fewer tools, faster setup, and real innovation for real buildings.
The entire solution was easily transported on a pallet, with components arranged to minimise space requirements. Furthermore, the units can be assembled without any tools, making deployment accessible to a wider range of personnel and significantly reducing setup complexity.
By being its very first customer, EDP is giving new solar ideas a fighting chance, not just in a lab, but on the rooftops we own and operate. With this partnership with OverEasy, clients and partners across Europe will benefit from faster, lighter, and more flexible solar.
Real data, real teamwork, real change, and one more step towards net zero.
