EDP remains among the most ethical companies in the world for the 14th consecutive year
Recognition from the Ethisphere Institute places EDP as the only Portuguese company on the list of the World's Most Ethical Companies®
EDP was once again recognised as one of the most ethical companies in the world by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing standards for ethical business practices. In this edition, the company was once again highlighted in the World's Most Ethical Companies® for its good management practices and consistent business ethics policy, achieving an above-average score, which praises the continuous work it has been developing over the years in all the geographies in which it operates.
This is the 14th consecutive year that the company has received this distinction, remaining the only Portuguese representative on the list. In this edition, the selection included 136 companies from 19 countries and 44 sectors of activity, among which seven belong to the Energy & Utilities sector. The distinguished companies outperformed a comparable index of global companies by 7.8 percentage points from January 2020 to January 2025.
At EDP, the ethics is based on a solid structure, focused on its Code of Ethics, a reference document published in 2005 and periodically revised, with the most recent update being approved at the end of 2024. In addition, it has Ethics Committees, Speak up channels and a global area specialised in ethics and compliance led by the Ethics and Compliance Officer. This system is reinforced by the commitment to integrate ethics into the company's day-to-day activities, regularly promoting training and awareness actions among its employees.
"We congratulate EDP for achieving recognition as one of the most ethical companies in the world. Behind this honour is a true dedication and commitment to advancing business integrity. This approach is good for business, as we value companies that prioritise the types of practices we measure through our process," said Erica Salmon Byrne, Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Chairman, Ethisphere.
To select the most ethical companies in the world, the World's Most Ethical Companies® applies a questionnaire with more than 200 questions, designed to assess various aspects of organisational ethics. The survey covers topics such as ethical culture, governance, compliance programmes, corporate social responsibility and impact on the community, ensuring a structured and standardised analysis.
Annually, the Ethisphere Institute updates this questionnaire based on feedback from experts, partners and former candidates. In addition, adaptations are made to reflect changes in the regulatory environment, the global landscape and emerging best practices.
