The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and EDP, a European leader in solar solutions to power companies, have inaugurated a new solar photovoltaic installation at Goodyear facilities in Luxembourg with a combined capacity of 7 MWp.

The official opening ceremony took place in the presence of Lex Delles, Luxembourg Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy, and Tourism, and representatives from Goodyear and EDP.

Signed in 2024 through Enerdeal, a leading energy company in Luxembourg acquired by EDP in 2023, the project represents a total of 7 MWp of solar installed capacity on the Goodyear facilities. It includes 5 MWp at the Tire Plant and the Goodyear Innovation Center rooftop, as well as 2 MWp in carport structures covering the Goodyear Innovation Center parking lot. Combined, this installation is expected to generate around 6.5 GWh of electricity annually, which will be consumed directly onsite at Goodyear. The solar installations are the fifth in Goodyear EMEA and the eleventh globally. Goodyear has a goal to transition to 100 percent renewable energy for all its manufacturing operations by 2040.

Beyond their environmental benefits, the solar carport structures provide shelter for vehicles and make useful use of space. In Luxembourg, these systems represent an efficient way to generate renewable energy by utilizing existing areas, such as public, office, or commercial parking lots.

This project with Goodyear is a strong example of how collaboration between leading industrial and energy companies can accelerate the energy transition. At EDP, we are proud to help companies like Goodyear achieve their goals through reliable, efficient, and innovative solar solutions. With this new installation in Luxembourg, we reinforce our commitment to delivering clean energy across Europe and supporting entire value chains in their path towards net zero.

Goodyear has a global goal to transition its manufacturing operations and processes to all renewable electricity by 2030 and to all renewable energy by 2040. Today’s announcement puts us one step closer to this goal,” states Alex Schumann, Director Manufacturing Luxembourg at Goodyear.

EDP started operating in the Belux region in 2023 with the acquisition of Enerdeal, a provider of solar energy solutions with a consolidated presence in the distributed generation market. EDP holds a leading global position in distributed generation projects and is a leader among European-based players. With more than a decade of experience, the group has installed to date around 3 GWp of solar DG capacity with business and residential clients worldwide.
