EDP Energy Solidarity

Energy inclusion
Energy inclusion
Supporting communities, accelerating the energy transition, and ensuring that no one is left behind

The EDP Energy Solidarity program, promoted by the EDP Foundations in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil, supports local projects and initiatives that contribute to a fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable energy transition. Through an application process, the program seeks to support solutions that have a positive impact on communities, promoting access to clean energy, skills training, and the social and economic development of communities where EDP operates.

The program has been supporting sustainable and innovative solutions that address local challenges and harness the potential of each community. Only in this way is it possible to promote a more inclusive energy transition that is attuned to the realities of each region.

EDP Energy Solidarity Portugal

Sponsored by the EDP Foundation in Portugal since 2004, the EDP Solidarity Program was created with the goal of supporting projects dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in vulnerable situations and integrating communities at risk of social exclusion.

In 2023, the program was renamed EDP Energy Solidarity, reinforcing its commitment to supporting social projects that promote a just and inclusive energy transition.

Between 2004 and 2026, by supporting more than 440 projects with an investment of approximately 20 million euros, the program has positively impacted more than 1.5 million people in the communities where EDP operates.

EDP Energy Solidarity Spain

Since 2015, the EDP Foundation in Spain has supported projects that promote energy efficiency and equitable access to energy, as well as initiatives related to rural development, combating depopulation, and actions aimed at the elderly population. In 2021, the program focused primarily on projects addressing the impacts of the pandemic, with a special emphasis on the most vulnerable groups.

In 2022, the program strengthened its commitment to a just energy transition, with a significant portion of the investment dedicated to this area. In 2023, in addition to projects on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable mobility, support was also extended to initiatives focused on improving the quality of life for the elderly and on rural development in municipalities affected by the closure of thermal power plants (Aboño, Soto Ribera, Los Barrios e Puente Nuevo).

Since its launch, 214 projects have been supported, with a total investment of 8 million euros, benefiting more than 620,000 people and entities across all of Spain’s autonomous communities.

EDP Energy Solidarity Brazil

Since 2007, the EDP Institute has supported more than 180 projects, investing over 80 million reais and benefiting approximately 380,000 people. Initially, the program aimed to support initiatives dedicated to the development of communities where EDP operates, prioritizing local needs and leveraging the resources and talents of each region.

Among the supported initiatives, highlights include projects to restore springs, promote local crafts and indigenous communities, as well as training programs for youth in entrepreneurship, always with a focus on inclusion and diversity.

Since 2023, the program in Brazil has been renamed Energy Solidarity, aligning its strategy with initiatives developed in Portugal and Spain. Currently, it supports social innovation projects that promote access to clean energy in vulnerable communities, training for green jobs, with a special focus on training women to work in the electricity sector, and the development of governance models for energy credits, with monitoring and evaluation of the social impact generated.
