In Brazil, boosting the development of Taubaté.

EDP is one of the sponsors of the restoration project of the Taubaté Railway Complex, where Station T will be born, a creative hub that will boost the development of the region.

Preserving history and embracing the future

Aware of the importance of preserving historical heritage and encouraging culture, EDP supported the 2022 restoration project of the Taubaté Railway Complex in São Paulo, Brazil. This project combines themes that are very important to EDP: the preservation of heritage, innovation and the promotion of culture and regional specificities.

With a total area of 6025 m2 (2,500 built-up area), the complex, which opened in 1876, played a very important role in the history of Brazil. It was the main means of coffee distribution to the port of Santos and, at the same time, until the 1980's, a mandatory stop for people travelling between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Second project worldwide

After being closed for 36 years (until 2012), it was declared Cultural Heritage of the State of São Paulo in 2021. In 2023, it aspires to be the first project in Brazil - the second in the world - to build this type of structure inside a railway station.

The restoration project, which maintains the historic features of the building, was conceived by the I.S. Institute for Human Development and Sustainability, under the Federal Law for Cultural Incentive and the Rescuing History Program, of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). It foresees the conversion of the space into Station T, an ecosystem for innovation, creative economy, and smart cities.

Planned for the space, which should be inaugurated in 2025, are an auditorium, coworking spaces, a restaurant, a space for courses and events, mobility labs, and cyber security, among others. The new hub is expected to be an important social and economic lever for the region.
