Get to know what we are talking about

More than isolated concepts, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are elements that allow us to understand in depth how each person feels represented, respected, valued, treated fairly, and has equitable access to opportunities.

Diversity

Diversity refers to traits that make individuals unique, including age, class, race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, health, ability, size, education, occupation, personality, and other differences.

Equity

The notion of being treated fairly and having equal access to opportunities within an organisation or system, including the effort to eliminate and/or mitigate inequalities and barriers.

Inclusion

The psychological and social function perceived by an individual of great appreciation of his or her uniqueness and belonging. The act of creating an environment where all individuals feel welcomed, s

Studies show that the lack of female references will make many girls give up their dreams, or even not get to know them. Teachers, nurses… they have several examples on their gender, but having a female engineer to look up to is not so common.
Assuming diversity as an enabling factor of innovation is the backbone of our support for this movement.

We are the most skilled and talented women's society in history, where there are more and better-educated women university graduates. Today, more than ever, we must demand women to be given the role they deserve in this society.

We have a plan for creating equal opportunities

Every year we reaffirm this commitment by reviewing our Gender Equality Plan, essential to continue building a diverse, balanced and inclusive workplace where everyone belongs.

No workplace is truly diverse without gender equality

In this sense, we have set concrete goals to increase the representation of women globally and in leadership positions, through the promotion of equity in access to opportunities and working conditions, remuneration, training, prevention of harassment and protection in parenthood and conciliation.

Women at EDP:
the road to equality

As a reflection of society, EDP advances diversity, inclusiveness, and equality. While progress for gender equality varies across cultures, rethinking women's roles in the 21st century remains crucial.  Some companies, including EDP, are actively driving this societal change.

Participating in the disabilities wave made me more aware of how difficult it still is to be a person with a disability or a handicap, not only when looking for a job, when approaching active life, but also when performing one's duties in a company, when moving from home to the office, when apparently going to a restaurant. However, it gave me the opportunity to meet extraordinary, resilient, impactful people, who made their "weaknesses" into strengths, and their disabilities into even bigger, better, different capabilities, changing the lives of so many other people.

Deconstructing ableism to promote inclusion

Ableism is discrimination against individuals with disabilities, and its deconstruction is key to equality. As a socially responsible company, we commit to accessibility to boost productivity and inclusion. Promoting equal opportunities requires change in society, and our Guide to Deconstructing Ableismshows how you can contribute.

I feel that this project gave me the opportunity to learn more about integration, at a business level, but more specifically about what the characteristics of each generation are and the big challenges we can face when integrating different generations in the same team or company. I am confident that the learning acquired during this project can be an asset for the future of the entire EDP group!

Your Board Initiative

We are committed to increasing the representation of younger generations in leadership positions in the coming years through internal development programs such as Your Board.

This program aims to accelerate the development of young employees, give them a voice and exposure to their ideas, and bring new perspectives to the group's top leadership.

Being part of the Inclusion Office (Wave Culturalities) has been an important aspect for me as an expatriate working in Portugal and gave me the possibility to actively promote cultural diversity and inclusion of going beyond the fact of being from another country but rather to interpret it in a broader context where it comprises unique attributes of persons, such as ethnicity, language, religion. It has also been a great opportunity to meet many other people across the organisation and propose specific actions that compose the Diversity & Inclusion Roadmap of EDP.
