EDP supports entrepreneurs in the Douro region with a new edition of the Entama program in Portugal
The entrepreneurship program, which debuted in Portugal in May this year, returns this month to support entrepreneurs and boost communities in the Douro region, with funding that can reach up to €20,000 per project. Applications are open until November 25.
The second edition of this EDP initiative in Portugal aims to support the launch and consolidation of small business projects in the Douro region, continuing the first edition held in Portugal in the Minho and Trás-os-Montes regions.
Entama, a name inspired by an Asturian word meaning “to start something,” is a program created by EDP in Spain where is now launching its seventh edition, simultaneously in Portugal. The initiative seeks to stimulate the local economy, encourage job creation, promote equal opportunities, and contribute to population retention in low-density areas.
The initiative focuses on entrepreneurship with a positive impact, valuing local resources, sustainable tourism, innovation, inclusion, and the energy transition. Selected projects may receive up to €20,000 in funding. Applications are open until November 25, and winners are expected to be announced by the end of 2025, with implementation planned throughout 2026 and 2027.
In addition to financial support, Entama offers an online platform that allows applicants to submit their proposals, access resources, and establish partnerships with other local entrepreneurs—known in Spain as “entamadores”—fostering an active community of innovation and collaboration.
Since its launch, the program has already supported 73 projects in regions such as Asturias, Cádiz, and Gerês, with over €740,000 invested in areas like sustainable tourism, promotion of local products, and waste management. Examples such as the Brañagallones tourist train or the Agrolinera for dairy waste highlight the positive impact of the initiative.
