EDP in Poland with 10-fold increase in contracted solar power capacity

Friday 24, March 2023

EDP Energia Polska, which specialises in photovoltaic solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises, contracted over 50 MWp of solar capacity with clients in 2022. This is the best result since the company started operating in Poland and 10 times more than in 2021. The dynamic development of the company was possible thanks to organic growth and acquisitions.

EDP group, a global leader in renewable energy, has recently announced a 25 billion euros investments until 2026 in the energy transition worldwide. EDP is present in 29 countries on three continents. The group’s photovoltaic solutions for business are represented in Poland by EDP Energia Polska (EDP EP). Company reached by the end of 2022 a total solar contracted capacity with Polish clients of 50.7 MWp. This is 10 times more than a year before and constitutes the biggest growth (of +800%) among European countries where EDP is present in the distributed solar business.

EDP EP has been consistently developing its business and customer portfolio in Poland since 2020 mainly through organic growth and acquisitions. In 2022, EDP strengthened its position through the acquisition of Soon Energy Poland and Zielona-Energia.com, companies that were fundamental for the growth of EDP group in Poland.

– For several years, the growth rate of contracted solar capacity in Poland has been extremely high. Considering the intense competition in the market and the fact that many small and medium-sized companies have been particularly affected by the crisis, we are more than pleased with the excellent result of the signed contracts with which we ended last year – says Ireneusz Kulka, Country Manager of EDP Energia Polska. – However, we are not slowing down. We are constantly working on new contracts with further companies whose future depends to a large extent on a stable energy supply and solutions that allow them to reduce their expenditure – adds Ireneusz Kulka.

Cheaper energy - even in times of crisis

The photovoltaic solutions offered by EDP Energia Polska not only enable small and medium-sized companies to develop in line with the 'green transition', but above all allow them to increase their energy independence and significantly reduce their energy bills. This is particularly important in times of economic crisis, risk of black-outs and record increases in energy prices for businesses. Among EDP customers savings reach up to 17%.

EDP Energia Polska's photovoltaic installations for business in the PV-as-a-Service model allow companies to avoid having to invest their own funds. Another advantage of EDP's offer is that the company takes on the cost of installing the PV panels - crucial in difficult times. Customers are guaranteed an energy supply, but they also have the option to sell any surplus back to EDP. An additional advantage is the servicing and regular maintenance of the PV installation by EDP's specialists for the entire duration of the contract, which is 10-15 years.
