Limpeza Praias Planeta Zero

EDP promotes beach clean-ups from the north to the south of the country

Friday 23, July 2021

This action will take place during the months of July, August and September on 16 mainland beaches. The people who collect more garbage can win sustainable prizes. EDP challenges the Portuguese to change tomorrow, now.

In an initiative promoted within the scope of Planeta Zero, EDP Comercial will tour 16 beaches from the north to the south of the country, challenging the Portuguese to support the cleaning of these beaches by removing rubbish from the sand.

To participate, just go to one of the 16 beaches on the corresponding day, there you will be offered a bag to collect all the garbage you can find, thus helping to clean up one of the favorite areas of both the Portuguese and foreign tourists at this time of year. By participating in this mission organized by EDP Comercial, it is possible to prevent garbage from remaining on the sand, in the dunes and in the water, thus protecting the environment.

This garbage is weighed at the end of each day and its weight is registered in the name of each participant. At the end of the action, in September, the three EDP Comercial customers who managed to collect more waste will be awarded a bicycle (1st place), a scooter (2nd place) and a 100€ voucher (3rd place) to use at dott.pt, the online store that recently launched, in partnership with EDP Comercial, a line of sustainable products.

EDP customers registered on the company's app also receive Planet Zero points, which they can accumulate in their account and later exchange for discounts and sustainable experiences, and all participants receive a cleaning certificate.

Beach cleaning started on the weekend of July 17th and 18th and takes place over the next seven weekends, until September 5th. In the first two days of the action, 251 kg of garbage were collected by the participants, which demonstrates their interest in protecting nature and national beaches.
